Former TMC MP and famous Bengali actor Tapas Paul dies in Mumbai

  • Tapas Paul, the hero of many Bengali films and Trinamool Party MP, passed away.
  • Tapas also worked in the 1984 release of Abodh, a well-known actress Madhuri Dixit  debut film.

Mumbai :Tapas Paul, a well-known Actor of Bengali films and Trinamool Party MP, dies today at around 4.00 am in Holy Family Hospital in Mumbai. He was 61 years old.

Bengali actor and former Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal died of a heart attack on Tuesday. He went to Mumbai to meet his daughter. As he was leaving for Kolkata to return, he had a severe chest pain at the airport. He was rushed to Juhu hospital but died at around 4 am.

According to the information provided by the news agency PTI, he had a heart problem before and he had visited the hospital in this connection several times in the last two years. Bengali actor Ranjit Malik said on Pal death – I have just learned about it. Yes, his health was not well for some time.

Tapas Paul Film Career

Tapas Paul ventured into the world of films with the Bengali film ‘Dadar Keerthi’ in the 80s, after which he worked in all films like ‘Guru Dakshina’, ‘Parbat Priya’, ‘Amar Bandhan’ ‘Saheb’ and one As an actor, he gave many superhit films.

Significantly, he also worked in the famous film Madhuri Dixit debut film ‘Abodh’ released in 1984. Like Madhuri Dixit, ‘Abodh’ was Tapas Paul first Hindi film. Produced by Rajshri Productions and directed by Hiren Nag, Tapas Paul played Shankar Singh, Madhuri Dixit’s husband.

It is noteworthy that Tapas was also a member of the Trinamool Congress MP of Paul Mamta Banerjee and had also made headlines for making controversial statements at an election rally in Bengal during the campaigning of the 2014 general elections.

He was arrested by the CBI in 2016 in the Rose Valley chit fund case and was granted bail nearly 13 months later. Since then, he has distanced himself from films. He gave many hits like ‘Saheb’ (1981), ‘Parbat Priya’ (1984), ‘Bhalobasha Bhalobasha’ (1985), ‘Anuragar Choyan’ (1986) and ‘Amar Bandhan’ (1986). He also received the Filmfare Award for the film Saheb (1981).
