Filmfare Awards Background
The Filmfare Awards ceremony is one of the oldest and most important events in the history of Indian cinema. It was first started in 1954 when the National Film Award was also established. The award is given every year based on the opinion of the public and the opinion of the members of the jury.
In the first awards ceremony held on 21st March 1954, only five awards were given by the filmfare, in which Do Bigha Zamin grab Best Film award, Best Directing was given to Bimal Roy (Do Bigha Zameen), Dilip Kumar got Best Actor (Dag),and for Best Actress Meena Kumari was awarded for (Baiju Bawra), and Naushad was honored for the best music in the film.
